Reasons Why You'll Love This Recipe

It's a perfect and easy side dish for your main dish.
It’s so scrumptious and turns out perfectly every time.
The sprouts are crispy on the outside and soft and pillowy inside.
Air frying is way easier than broiling the sprouts in a regular oven.
This recipe can be made with just a few simple ingredients.
This is the perfect recipe for the holiday menu and busy weeknights.

    Recipe Ingredients

Brussels sprouts: Reduce the cooking time if you like your sprouts al dente. Brussels sprouts are also called mini cabbages.
Olive oil: You can use avocado oil or your favorite vegetable oil. Don't hesitate to use less oil if you like.
Kosher salt: Sea salt and table salt would also work for this recipe.
Black pepper: Add pepper to taste.
Balsamic vinegar: This is reduced balsamic vinegar. It usually neutralizes the bitterness that sprouts have and makes them more flavorful. Soy sauce or balsamic glaze can be used instead.
Honey: Maple syrup will also work for this recipe.
Parmesan cheese: Feel free to use your favorite cheese. I sometimes use feta cheese.
Garlic: 2-3 minced garlic cloves will work for this recipe.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

    Step 1
Place the halved Brussels sprouts in a large or medium bowl. Soak them in cold water for about 10 minutes.

    Step 2
Pat them dry with a paper towel, place the fresh sprouts in a large bowl and drizzle oil over them. Season them with salt, pepper, and garlic powder and toss.

    Step 3
Lightly brush the air fryer basket with oil and place the Brussels sprouts inside in a single layer, flat side down.

    Step 4
Cook at 370 degrees for 10 minutes but be sure to carefully turn over the sprouts halfway to ensure that they are evenly cooked. Your sprouts are ready when they turn crispy and golden brown.

    Step 5
To a separate bowl, add honey and balsamic vinegar, and then add the crispy sprouts. Gently toss them until they are all evenly coated. Sprinkle parmesan cheese over your crispy Air Fryer Brussels sprouts balsamic and serve them hot.

Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts Balsamic Tips and Tricks

Other than balsamic vinegar and parmesan cheese, you can also drizzle lemon juice, soy sauce, nutritional yeast, herbs, red pepper flakes, sweet chili sauce, goat cheese, lemon zest, crispy bacon, or toasted pine nuts.

The bitterness in Brussels sprouts can be reduced through cooking and seasoning. You can also blanch them in boiling water for a few minutes before cooking to reduce bitterness. Roasting, sautéing, or air frying Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, and other seasonings can also help mellow their flavor and make them easier to enjoy.

To speed up the cooking process, simply microwave the Brussels sprouts for about 2-3 minutes before placing them in the air fryer.

    History of Brussels sprouts

The earliest written mention of Brussels sprouts dates back to the late 16th century in Belgium and England. They made their way to the United States in the 18th century through French settlers in Louisiana and have become a very popular vegetable.

    Storage and Reheating Instructions

The best way to store leftovers is to place them in an airtight container. They can last in the fridge for up to 2-3 days.

Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts Balsamic FAQs

My Brussels sprouts are too large, what should I do?
I recommend cutting them in half and then quartering larger sprouts.

Do I need to defrost my frozen Brussels sprouts before air frying them?
No, you don’t have to defrost your frozen Brussels sprouts before air frying them. You will probably have to cook them a little longer in the air fryer though.

Can you make crispy Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts Balsamic a day in advance?
Yes, you can make it a day in advance, but they will be less crunchy.

What are Brussels sprouts, and what are they made of?
Brussels sprouts are small, leafy green vegetables that are part of the Brassicaceae family, which includes cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower. They have tightly packed leaves that grow on a central stalk.

    Are Brussels sprouts baby cabbage?
Though Brussels sprouts belong to the same family as cabbage, they are not actually baby cabbage. When growing, cabbage forms a head, while Brussels sprouts grow as small individual buds on a stalk.

Are Brussels sprouts a fruit or a vegetable?
Brussels sprouts are classified as vegetables.

Why did my Brussels sprouts burn in the air fryer?
Brussels sprouts can burn in an air fryer if they are cooked at too high a temperature or for too long. To prevent them from burning, try cooking them at a lower temperature and keep an eye on them. Tossing them in oil and seasonings before air frying can also help prevent burning.

Is it better to cut Brussels sprouts before cooking?
Whether you should cut Brussels sprouts before cooking depends on your preference. Cutting them in half can help them cook faster, and more evenly. This develops a crispy exterior, which some people like.

Should I boil Brussels sprouts before roasting?
Boiling Brussels sprouts before roasting isn't necessary, but it can be done to soften them slightly and reduce their bitterness. If you decide to boil them, blanch them in boiling water for a few minutes, then drain and pat them dry before roasting.
