Ingredients
Method
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Open and unroll the crescent roll dough. Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut each crescent roll in half lengthwise.
- Take each little smoked sausage and roll it in the pastry puff dough, starting with the wider end of the dough and rolling towards the tip. Make sure your little smokies are completely covered.
- Brush the inside of the air fryer basket with olive oil or coat it with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Next, place each wrapped sausage (piggie) in a single layer in the prepared air fryer basket and then brush the tops of the piggies with a little olive oil.
- Air fry the wrapped sausages in batches at 350°F (175°C) for 5-8 minutes. Check them at the 5-minute mark to ensure they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Once done, serve your pigs in a blanket hot and enjoy them with Dijon mustard, ketchup, honey mustard, BBQ sauce, or any of your favorite dipping sauces!
Notes
Crescent Rolls: Crescent roll dough provides the flaky, buttery exterior that encases the mini sausage. It also adds a delightful texture and flavor contrast to the savory filling. If crescent rolls are unavailable, pizza dough can be used as a substitute.
Little Smoked Sausages: These lit’l smokies or cocktail sausages offer a smoky and savory flavor to this pigs-in-a-blanket air fryer recipe. They also provide a hearty filling that pairs perfectly with the pastry. If little Smoked Sausages are unavailable feel free to use small hot dogs. For a vegetarian option, consider using plant-based sausages.
Olive Oil or Cooking Spray: Greasing the air fryer basket with olive oil or cooking spray prevents the crescent dogs from sticking during cooking. It also helps to achieve a golden brown crispy exterior. Alternatively, any neutral cooking oil can be used as a substitute.
